Freddie's Apprenticeship Experience at Nexere Consulting

9 February 2023

Studying a Recruitment Consultant apprenticeship offers successful learners routes for progression into more senior roles within the industry. There are many rewards for studying apprenticeships, including networking opportunities, independence, ongoing support from the employer, peer-to-peer support, social benefits, and importantly, financial benefits such as paid annual leave.

What is a Recruitment Apprenticeship?

A Recruitment Apprenticeship is a training program that combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction. The apprentice works for a company in the recruitment industry, learning the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the field. The apprenticeship typically lasts for 12-24 months, and upon completion, the apprentice is awarded a recognized qualification such as a Level 3 or Level 4 in Recruitment Practice. If the apprentice is successful, they will often be offered a permanent position within the company.

Alongside your on-the-job training, as an apprentice, you will spend a minimum of 6 hours a week on average in off-the-job training with a provider, such as a college or university. Here you learn the skills you need to become competent in your chosen occupation, a vital step to getting a full-time job in the future.

Recruitment Apprenticeships at Nexere Consulting

Here at Nexere, Freddie, our apprentice is currently studying to become a qualified Recruitment Consultant. His apprenticeship will last around 15 months, receiving a Recruitment Resource qualification once he has completed his training and studying.

Whilst receiving in-depth deskside and classroom training from Senior Management and our Global Head of People & Performance, Wednesday Holder, Freddie is given seven hours per week to study and complete his coursework. His coursework modules include studying the legal side of recruitment. Once he has completed all his content, there is a two-and-a-half-hour exam based on his learning. For example, one of his coursework tasks was to ‘Write a job post’ for a specific role, in a total of 1,500 words.

Freddie is offered lots of support from both his colleagues at Nexere, and also his allocated apprenticeship tutor. He has monthly calls with his tutor to discuss his progress, and any concerns or difficulties that he is facing. Wednesday Holder, often joins the call with both Freddie and his tutor, whilst he gets feedback from them both on his coursework. This allows Wednesday to identify Freddie’s strengths and weaknesses – resulting in tailored support within the workplace.

Currently working with the Cyber Security sector at Nexere, Freddie has a clear training plan, and described the support he gains from working with his colleagues as ‘valuable’. He also explained that he finds it really helpful working in our offices, as he can always ask for extra support with his apprenticeship when needed. Importantly, he is able to shadow experienced consultants and resourcers – helping build his confidence and providing him with priceless industry experience.

To find a recruitment apprenticeship, young people can start by searching for opportunities on government websites, such as the National Apprenticeship Service or the Apprenticeship Guide. They can also reach out to recruitment agencies directly. Here at Nexere, we are happy to review applications throughout the year. A member of the HR team will give individuals a call to discuss their career goals, and to explain what the Recruitment Apprenticeship entails in more detail!
